Say “Yes” To A White Smile!

01 December 2016

“Whitening is bad for your teeth!” – this statement is occasionally made when discussing teeth whitening, but is there any truth in it?

Our dental team believe that teeth whitening is not harmful for healthy teeth, although it should be noted that to have the most positive and long-lasting results, proper planning is essential, as is following expert advice

Teeth whitening appointments at our clinics take up to 1.5 hours. It is necessary to plan before the appointment however as you may need to undergo scale and polish treatment with a hygienist before receiving whitening treatment.

Scale And Polish Treatment - Flossing

The scale and polish may be necessary in some cases in order to achieve the desired results. If there is plaque and tartar on the teeth, as well as being bad in itself, the end result of whitening can be an uneven effect of the whitener on the tooth enamel.

It is advised that you take some time in between the hygienist appointment and the teeth whitening procedure; it may be a couple of weeks or a couple of months depending on the health of the teeth. Our dental team will tailor a treatment plan specifically for you during your initial appointment. There is no need to worry that the whitening might quickly lose its effect – the effect of teeth whitening can last for several years!

To truly enjoy a long-lasting effect of whitening, it is necessary to significantly reduce or completely exclude certain habits and food products that affect teeth whiteness – things such as coffee, tea (incidentally green tea colours teeth more than black tea), red wine, cola, and many other products.

So how do the experts at our clinics achieve whiter smiles? It is achieved with the help of laser whitening, which is currently considered the healthiest and most effective method of teeth whitening. During the procedure, a whitening gel with hydrogen peroxide is applied on the teeth and then the teeth are exposed to a ZOOM whitening lamp. When exposed to the light, oxygen releases from the gel. The tooth enamel absorbs this oxygen which in turn disrupts the darker teeth pigmentation into small colourless particles. Using this method, tooth enamel becomes 1 to 2 tones brighter. The pleasing changes can be seen immediately after the procedure.

You should not be afraid that the whitening gel contains hydrogen peroxide – teeth are not harmed by this and will maintain their strength. Furthermore, the gel does will not come into contact with the gums, as they will be covered with a special material before the procedure. It is completely normal that teeth may feel more sensitive than usual after the whitening procedure – this sensation can last up to 2 weeks.

Use Toothpaste And Solution For Sensitive Teeth

For this reason, it is recommended to use toothpaste and rinsing solutions designed specifically for sensitive teeth during this time. At the end of the procedure, the patient’s teeth are treated with a special preparation that fluoridate the teeth and reduce their sensitivity.

Laser whitening is not carried out to minors (people under 18), women during pregnancy and women who breastfeed as well as to people who have serious gum diseases and dental erosion. For everyone else this procedure is absolutely harmless. Whitening can also be done at home using specially made whitening trays.

During the first consultation, the doctor takes teeth impressions for creating the individual trays and determines the most suitable whitening gel. To gain a more dazzling smile, the trays need to be covered with the gel and used for several hours per day, or you can just leave them on overnight. Your dentist will advise how many times you can apply the gel at home. Since whitening trays are created for each patient individually at Dental Art Implant Clinics’ laboratory, they fit in comfortably and do not cause any unpleasant sensations.

A significant advantage with home whitening is that you can choose yourself when to do the whitening and how intensively. Furthermore, it is a very careful procedure that is more suited for people with sensitive teeth. However, a professional dental expert will be able to determine the most suitable form of whitening for you.

Teeth Whitening

So, the plan is quite simple - visit a hygienist, select the best type of whitening with the help of a doctor and start the teeth whitening procedure. Your smile should be dazzling!
