Zygomatic Implants are dental implants that are anchored in the cheek (zygomatic) bones. They are used when a patient has soft, thin, or even missing natural jawbone and it is not possible to ensure successful placement of regular dental implants in the upper jaw.
They serve as an alternative for patients that do not want to prolong the treatment with the addition of sinus lift and bone grafting procedures that are used to increase the volume of jawbone.
No, they are slightly different options, but both regular dental implants and zygomatic dental implants are equally considered the best methods for treating missing or damaged teeth.
They restore the function and aesthetics of a natural smile and, with proper care, can last a lifetime.
The main difference between regular and zygomatic implants is that the latter is used when there is not enough natural upper jawbone to place regular implants.
In addition, zygomatic implants also reduce the time of the overall treatment if additional procedures are needed to increase the volume of bone in the jaw.
The procedure does not differ much from the regular dental implant treatment procedure.
The only difference is that the screw used for zygomatic implants is longer than the screw of a regular dental implant and is engineered in a 45-degree angle to ensure a secure connection with the cheek bone (as highlighted in the image).
As mentioned before, sinus lift, or bone grafting procedures to increase the volume of jawbone are not needed when choosing the zygomatic implant option.
This treatment method may seem intimidating at first, but – do not be scared! Our team of dental implant experts will assess you at every step of the treatment to ensure a pleasant experience.
Just like with with regular dental implant treatment it is important to see a dental implant surgeon first to determine what would be the most suitable treatment for your dental needs.
Depending on the health of your upper natural jawbone, our experts will determine whether zygomatic or regular dental implants are more suitable for you.
Of course, the first step is to book a dental implant consultation, so don’t hesitate and fill in the consultation form below or get in touch with us directly.
